1.Product Property

Methyl ethyl ketone is an organic compound. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a smell similar to acetone. It is highly volatile. It can mix with ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform, and oils. It dissolves in 4 parts of water, but its solubility decreases as the temperature rises. It can form an azeotropic mixture with water. It is low in toxicity, flammable, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air. High concentrations of vapor have an anesthetic effect.

3.Application Scope and Usage

MEK is a medium-boiling solvent widely used in paints, coatings, printing inks and adhesives for cellulose acetate, acrylic and alkyd resins. It serves as an extraction solvent for dewaxing lubricating oils and refining vegetable oils, and as a reagent for cadmium, copper and mercury analysis. It is an approved food flavouring agent for cheese, coffee and banana profiles, and an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, antioxidants and rubber-processing chemicals.

4.Package and Storage

MEK is supplied in 165 kg net mild-steel tight-head drums or 20 L UN-approved HDPE carboys, and in 20 m³ ISO tanks for bulk users. Store in a cool, ventilated area below 30 °C, away from oxidizers, acids, bases and ignition sources. Drums should be kept upright, sealed and electrically grounded during transfer; tanks must be equipped with antistatic devices. Transport vehicles require spark-arresting exhausts and firefighting equipment; avoid direct sunlight, heat and prolonged residence in densely populated zones.
