Dichloromethane is a compound formed by replacing the two hydrogen atoms in a methane molecule with chlorine. It is a colorless, transparent, heavier-than-water liquid with an ether-like odor and a sweet taste. It does not burn. Dichloromethane is slightly soluble in water and is miscible with most commonly used organic solvents. It can also be mixed in any proportion with other chlorine-containing solvents, ethyl ether, ethanol, and N,N-dimethylformamide.<\/p>\n

Used as a local anesthetic for dentistry, a refrigerant, a fire extinguishing agent, and a cleaning and degreasing agent for metal surface paint layers, as well as a descaling and demolding agent.<\/p>\n

Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.<\/p>\n
