La solution aqueuse de dim\u00e9thylamine est un liquide incolore, fortement alcalin, \u00e0 l'odeur p\u00e9n\u00e9trante de poisson ou d'ammoniac. Elle est compl\u00e8tement miscible avec l'eau et l'\u00e9thanol, a un point d'\u00e9bullition de ~51 \u00b0C, une densit\u00e9 proche de 0,9 g cm-\u00b3 \u00e0 20 \u00b0C et d\u00e9gage des vapeurs inflammables plus lourdes que l'air.<\/p>\n

La solution 40 % est une source pratique de dim\u00e9thylamine pour la synth\u00e8se. Elle est largement utilis\u00e9e comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment constitutif du dim\u00e9thylformamide, du dim\u00e9thylac\u00e9tamide et des acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateurs de caoutchouc ; elle agit comme catalyseur de base dans les r\u00e9actions de condensation et d'alkylation ; elle sert de r\u00e9gulateur de pH dans le traitement de l'eau et constitue un interm\u00e9diaire pour les produits agrochimiques, les produits pharmaceutiques et les auxiliaires textiles.<\/p>\n
