It is mainly used as a food flavoring agent (FEMA 2442, for blending caramel, fruit flavors), a pharmaceutical intermediate (for drug synthesis), a cosmetic solvent (for perfumes, lotions), and a biofuel additive (to improve combustion performance).

Acetoin ethyl ester is packaged in 25kg plastic drums (HDPE) or aluminum drums. For food-grade products, it should be lined with PE film. Store in a cool and dry place (<25℃), keep tightly sealed to prevent moisture, and keep away from fire sources and oxidants. The shelf life is 24 months.
