【Chemical Composition】Ethylene glycol fatty acid ester
Alias: Ethylene Glycol Monostearate (EGMS)
【Type】Non-ionic
【HLB Value】2.5 ± 0.2
1.Product Property
EGMS appears as white to pale yellow flakes or lumps with a melting point of 52–60 °C. It is insoluble in water yet readily dissolves in hot ethanol, toluene, and xylene. Compatible with most surfactants, it remains stable across a wide pH range, yielding a gentle, multi-layered pearlescent effect in finished formulations.
2.Technical Norm
Parameter | Specification |
Appearance | White to pale yellow flakes or lumps |
Acid value | ≤5 mg KOH/g |
Saponification value | 170–190 mg KOH/g |
Melting point | 52–60 °C |
3.Application Scope and Usage
EGMS serves as a pearlescent agent, opacifier, thickener, emulsifier, and viscosity modifier in liquid detergents, shampoos, creams, and hair conditioners, imparting a soft, rich pearl luster. It also suspends insoluble microparticles in cosmetic emulsions. Typically added at 0.5–2 % to the hot oil phase, it is stirred into formulations above 60 °C and homogenized until uniform.
4.Package and Storage
The product is packed in 20 kg woven bags with an inner PE liner. Store in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Handle as a non-hazardous chemical; keep containers tightly closed to prevent caking. Under recommended conditions, the shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture.
