Alias: Benzoic acid, sodium salt, Antimol.

Molecular formula: C7H5NaO2  Relative molecular mass: 144.1032

Structural formula:

1.Product Property

Sodium benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid (chemical formula C₇H₅NaO₂), a white granular or powder substance that is highly soluble in water. As an effective preservative, it is widely used in acidic foods such as carbonated beverages, juices, and seasonings to inhibit mold and yeast. It is also used in medicines (for syrup preservation), cosmetics, and personal care products. It is highly safe and requires dry and sealed storage.

3.Application scope and Usage

Sodium Benzoate is a widely used preservative in food (soft drinks, sauces, pickles), pharmaceuticals (syrups, oral care), and cosmetics (shampoos, creams). It effectively inhibits mold and yeast in acidic environments (pH<4.5) and is favored for its water solubility and low cost.

4.Package and Storage

Sodium benzoate is usually packaged in 25kg paper bags lined with polyethylene (PE) film or plastic woven bags to prevent moisture. During storage, it should be placed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperatures (recommended temperature < 30℃). It should be sealed for preservation to prevent moisture absorption and caking, and kept away from strong acids and oxidants. The shelf life is generally 36 months.
