【CAS】141-43-5
Alias: 2-Aminoethanol, Ethanolamine, Colamine
Molecular formula: C₂H₇NO
Relative molecular mass: 61.08
1.Product Property
At ambient temperature monoethanolamine is a colourless, viscous liquid with a characteristic ammoniacal odour. It is fully miscible with water, ethanol and acetone, forming strongly alkaline solutions, and only sparingly soluble in ether and carbon tetrachloride. The product is hygroscopic and corrosive to copper and its alloys.
2.Technical Norm
Parameter | Specification |
Appearance | Colourless liquid |
Purity (wt %) | ≥ 99.0 |
Water (wt %) | ≤ 0.5 |
Colour (Pt-Co) | ≤ 15 |
Density (20 °C, g/cm³) | 1.014 – 1.019 |
Distillation range (°C) | 168 – 174 |
3.Application Scope and Usage
Monoethanolamine is widely used to remove acidic gases such as CO₂ and H₂S from natural and refinery gases. It serves as a key intermediate in the manufacture of non-ionic detergents, emulsifiers and plasticisers. Additional outlets include solvents for casein, shellac and dyes, active ingredient in pharmaceuticals, pH regulator in textile printing and rubber processing, and as a neutralising agent in water-based inks and coatings.
4.Package and Storage
MEA is supplied in 200 kg ± 0.5 kg new epoxy-lined steel drums or 180 kg ± 0.5 kg HDPE drums. Each batch is weighed to guarantee the declared average net weight. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from ignition sources, moisture and direct sunlight. Containers should be tightly closed and, if possible, blanketed with nitrogen; glass, stainless steel or aluminium vessels are recommended, while copper or copper alloys must be avoided. During transport, prevent leakage, rain exposure and mechanical damage.
